Today is Halloween and also my birthday (yippee!), and I have one more thing to celebrate. It’s the 1 year anniversary of me going to the gym! Yeah seriously.
Last year I committed myself to go to the gym for the first time ever. Thanks to my awesome personal trainer that I meet on Mondays, I have been exercising 3-5 days a week over the past year! It was a huge lifestyle change for myself and I’d like to celebrate today with this delicious, velvety and creamy fall treat, Pumpkin Smoothie!
Why I love Pumpkin Smoothie?
Maybe because I was born on Halloween, I love everything pumpkin and I especially look forward to pumpkin pies every fall. When the season came around, I thought about how to mix one of my favorite fall ingredients into my daily smoothie routine. Ever since I bought a NutriBullet, I’ve been making smoothies everyday and experimenting with different flavors. As pumpkins are now in season, I knew had to make this pumpkin smoothie!
The recipe is very simple and similar to all the other smoothies I make, but with the addition of pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spices. I usually include one banana to sweeten my smoothies and I added one to this pumpkin smoothie as well. Did I ruin the pumpkin pie flavor with a banana? Absolutely not (thank goodness!), and you won’t even taste the banana because of the flavorful pumpkin puree and spices. The smoothie tastes like pumpkin pie that got transformed into a drink.
I added whipped cream and ground cinnamon on top this time, but next time I would love to add crumbles of graham crackers for additional crunch and flavor.

Mr. JOC was very skeptical about this smoothie as he is not a fan of pumpkin pies or pumpkin dishes in general. However, he was really impressed with this smoothie after the first sip! It looks like we found another pumpkin dish to enjoy this fall.
For this smoothie, I used this delicious Silk Vanilla Almondmilk to further enhance the flavor of the pumpkin smoothie and to make it sweeter. Actually it was my son’s idea. He loves everything vanilla and when he saw the Vanilla Almondmilk, he insisted on me buying. At first I was going to use regular almond milk, but then I thought it could work well for this recipe, and it did! In case you are wondering, I don’t use cow’s milk for my smoothies and have been experimenting with various soy and almond milk from Silk.
If you haven’t tried almond milk before, I highly encourage you to give them a try. I make smoothies for my friends when they come visit and they were all surprised when they found out I use almond milk for my smoothies. I usually buy my almond milk from Trader Joe’s or just nearby grocery stores. The popularity of almond milk has really grown as I see them available in almost all the grocery stores I go to.
My family prefers the taste of almond milk over milk for smoothies as almond milk leaves a irresistible taste. So if you never tried almond milk, give it a try for your next smoothie recipe at home and let me know your feedback.

Pumpkin Smoothie Save Print Prep time 5 mins Total time 5 mins Author: Namiko Chen Serves: 2 cups Ingredients
- 1 medium banana
- ½ cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
- ¼ cup Greek yogurt (I used non-fat)
- ½ tsp. pumpkin pie spice*
- 1-2 Tbsp. maple syrup
- 1 cup ice cubes (if you don’t use frozen banana)
- ¾ cup vanilla almond milk**
- Whipped cream (optional)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- Equipment you will need
- A blender/mixer or NutriBullet
- Put banana, pumpkin puree, Greek yogurt, pumpkin pie spice, ice cubes, and vanilla almond milk in an electric blender/mixer or NutriBullet.
- Blend until all the ingredients are combined and smooth.
- Pour into a glass (or 2 small glasses). Add whipped cream and grind cinnamon on top, if desired.
Notes *If you don’t have pumpkin pie spice, you can add ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon, ⅛ tsp. ground ginger, pinch of allspice, pinch of nutmeg, and pinch of cloves.
**You can use any kind of milk. If you cannot find vanilla almond milk, you can use regular almond milk and add/omit vanilla extract.
I use the NutriBullet to make smoothies.
